The Blind & Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County (BVIC)

The BVIC was formed to assist the blind and visually impaired to maximize their ability to live as independently as possible. The BVIC Board of Directors is structured to have a majority of blind and visually impaired with advice and assistance from sighted members. Monterey Old Capitol Lions Club has been involved with and helped fund the BVIC since its inception. There are several aspects of the services offered.

• The BVIC employs licensed Orientation and Mobility Instructors to train those with vision loss to navigate their surroundings.

• The BVIC assists in development of Home Living Skills for the visually impaired

• The BVIC offers social interaction, exercise programs, crafts and ceramics classes, counseling sessions, and much more for the their clients.

• The BVIC employs Low Vision Optometrists and provides two state-of-the-art Low Vision Clinics -- one at the Pacific Grove location and one in Salinas.

Monterey Old Capitol Lions Club supports these efforts and encourages others to help these worthy causes.
